Gators Fall to Monarchs

Thursday, February 25th, 2011 the Gators entered their third game of the season with a record of 1-1 facing one of best teams in the tournament the Harlem Renaissance Monarchs. Without their starting power forward Darius Rhodes (out with an ankle injury) the Gators had to find a way to dominate in the paint with forward/center Isiah Frection. Because of the fast pace, the Monarchs defense, and the Gators sloppiness there were many turnovers throughout the game.
The highest lead was a mere 5 points which showed how close these teams were. With a score of 46-45 with 2 minutes and 40 seconds in the 4th quarter this game went down to the wire. The Monarchs scored four straight points leaving the Gators down by 5 with not much time left. Two critical free throws were made by the Monarchs which sealed their win. Despite the loss to the Harlem Renaissance Monarchs (51-49) center Akeem Armstrong finished the day with a double double scoring 11 points and grabbing down 10 rebounds. The sense of urgency is felt as the Gators fall to a record of 1-2 with a few more games left in the regular season.

GATORS WIN BIG !

The Gaynor Campus Gators kicked off their season with a big win against Innovation Diploma Plus High School 74-54, yesterday February 11th, 2011 at the Boys & Girls Club. The Gators started the game in control taking a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Despite, a short run by Innovation Diploma Plus High School in the third quarter the Gators continued to dominate in the paint. These crafty players found ways to pick the pocket of their opponent consistently. The Gators outscored Innovation Diploma Plus High School in the fourth quarter 17-14 as they cruised their way into a greatly celebrated win.
"We have to work on full court defense and rebounds but I am happy with the game" says Head Coach Darren when asked about his feelings involving the game. Also, Darren believes that the players were not as sharp as hoped but, he thought it was just first game jitters. With the record 1-0 the Gators should go into next weeks game Thursday, February 17th at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club a little more confident.
Let's Go Gators !
